SYI Soccer Rule Distinctions For Each Division
GAMES MUST START PROMPTLY AT THE APPOINTED TIME.
SHINGUARDS ARE ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY. OTHERWISE, PLAYERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE FIELD.
Division 1-
· 3 players on the field.
· No goalies.
· No referees.
· Everything is a throw-in. No penalty or corner kicks
· No aggressive techniques (slide tackles, pushing, etc.)
· 10-minute quarters, 10 minute halftime.
· Basic introduction to soccer.
Division 2-
· 6 players on field- 3 offense, 2 defense, 1 goalie
· No referees.
· Everything still throw-in. No penalty or corner kicks.
· No aggressive techniques (slide tackles, pushing, etc.)
· Goalie can throw in.
· 10 minute quarters, 10 minute halftime.
· Step up from division 1 basics.
Division 3-
· 9 players on field- 3 offense, 3 midfields, 2 defense, 1 goalie
· No referees; 1 coach will act as referee.
· Still all throw-ins, no penalty kicks. Corner kicks allowed.
· No aggressive techniques (slide tackles, pushing, etc.)
· Goalie can throw in.
· 12-minute quarters, 10 minute halftime.
· Should have good understanding of soccer rules and techniques. Reinforcing for more advanced play.
Division 4-
· 10 on field- 3 offense, 3 midfields, 3 defense, 1 goalie.
· 2 referees.
· No coaches on the field. They must stay on the sidelines.
· No penalty kicks. Corner kicks allowed.
· 15 minute quarters, 10 minute halftime. Can also be two 25-minute halves.
· Goalies can do goal kicks and punt in after pickup.
Division 5-
· 9 on field- 3 offense, 2 midfields, 3 defense, 1 goalie.
· Ideally 2 referees.
· No coaches on the field. They must stay on the sidelines.
· 25-minute halves. 10 minute halftime.
· Penalty kicks and corner kicks are in full effect at this point.
· Goalies can punt, do goal kicks, etc.
· Regulation soccer.
